Guns in stock that shoot this caliber.

Paraklese .410 bore exploding slugs are 130 grain rounds that detonate on impact and fragment into nine or ten pieces, sold five rounds to a bag for shooters chasing the most dramatic range experience the little bore can deliver. This is novelty ammunition in the most literal sense, and it is enormously entertaining when it is used correctly. It is also ammunition that demands genuine respect and a careful read of the rules below.

What the Paraklese .410 bore exploding slug does

Each round is a 130 grain steel bodied slug designed to detonate when it strikes. On impact it fragments into roughly nine or ten pieces, which produces a visible, audible result that ordinary ammunition simply does not.

Importantly, these rounds do not require a hard target to function. No steel plate is needed for detonation, which is part of what makes them so entertaining and also exactly why they demand extra caution.

Paraklese says it plainly: this is extremely fun ammunition with a devastating impact, and it must be handled with extreme caution every single time you load it.

Safety rules that are not optional

Treat these differently than any other shotshell in your bag. The rules below are requirements, not suggestions.

  • Never fire at any target closer than 50 yards, without exception
  • Never fire where the impact zone is near anything you do not intend to destroy
  • Expect detonation on soft targets as well, since no steel plate is required
  • Wear eye protection and keep all spectators well behind the firing line
  • Use only on private property or a range where this ammunition is expressly permitted
  • Five rounds per bag, so plan your session and your backstop before you load

Specifications and legal restrictions

The material is steel, the gauge is .410 bore, the slug weight is 130 grain, and the quantity is five rounds per bag. Fragmentation is listed as nine to ten pieces on impact, and the minimum engagement distance is 50 yards.

Know the legal side before you order. This product is illegal in Missouri, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Maryland, Illinois, DC, Iowa, New York, Florida, California, Alaska, and Hawaii.

Orders placed from those locations are subject to a 50 percent restocking fee, with no exceptions. Check your own state and local law before adding this to a cart, because the restriction list is the shortest version of a longer legal picture and rules change.

Range planning and responsible use

Pick your backstop first. A 50 yard minimum distance is only meaningful if what sits behind the target can absorb fragments safely, so choose an earthen berm or an open impact area with nothing downrange.

Confirm your range allows it. Many commercial ranges prohibit exploding or incendiary ammunition outright, and turning up unannounced with a bag of these is a good way to lose your membership.

Store them separately from your normal ammunition, clearly labeled, well away from heat sources and out of reach of anyone who might mistake them for ordinary shells.

Clean your bore afterward, and if you need cases, storage boxes, or eye and ear protection to run a session like this safely, they are all in our Apparel and Gear collection.

Set expectations before the first shot. The Paraklese .410 bore slug is a novelty round rather than a hunting or defensive load, and treating it as anything else is how people get themselves into trouble with specialty ammunition.

Used the way it is meant to be used, on the right property with a proper backstop, a bag of Paraklese .410 bore slugs is one of the more memorable things you can put through a small bore shotgun.

Used correctly, on the right property, with the right backstop and the right distance, range day just got a great deal more interesting. Follow the rules, respect the round, and enjoy it. Ships direct to your door, no FFL required.
