Who it’s for

Hunters using a .17 HMR on squirrels, rabbits and other small game. The common 17 grain varmint loads are built to fly apart on impact, which is great on a prairie dog and wasteful on a rabbit. GamePoint is a heavier 20 grain soft point, jacketed, with a small dimple in the tip that opens in a more controlled way and pushes deeper. It’s also a good fit for fox and similar sized predators, where you want penetration rather than fragments.

CCI says it will shoot under an inch at 100 yards. Your rifle has the final say, but .17 HMR is usually an accurate cartridge to begin with.

Twenty grains is still a very light bullet. .17 HMR shoots flat, but a steady crosswind pushes it further than most people expect by 150 yards. The heavier bullet also won’t land exactly where a 17 grain zero does, so check it on paper before the season.
