The Safari Raptor is Cutting Edge’s thick skin game bullet for the 9.3mm bores, a 255 grain brass bullet at .366 inch that behaves partly like a solid and partly like an expanding bullet. It is a component for handloaders, fifty to the box, and it suits both the 9.3×62 bolt rifles and the 9.3x74R doubles.
How the Raptor works
Rather than mushrooming, the Raptor sheds petals. Cutting Edge cuts this thick skin version to shed three blades instead of the six their standard Raptor sheds. Starting at about three inches of penetration, the three petals shear off and move outward in a star pattern away from the main wound channel, while the base carries on as a solid and keeps driving. You get a wide initial wound and a base that penetrates like a solid, which is the whole idea behind the design.
The shank has the same 3 plus 1 band configuration as the Safari Solid, to reduce bearing surface and barrel strain, and the nose is the 67 percent meplat BBW number 13 profile that Cutting Edge uses across the safari range for straight, deep penetration.
Who it is for
This is for the 9.3mm shooter loading for heavy, thick skinned game who wants more initial disruption than a solid gives but is not willing to trade away the penetration. If you want the pure solid instead, the 280 grain Safari Solid in .366 is the other 9.3mm bullet in the range.
