Who it’s for

Concealed carry, particularly out of a short barrel. Clothing is what defeats an ordinary hollow point. Denim and heavy fabric wad up inside the cavity, and a blocked cavity cannot expand, so the bullet sails through behaving like ball. Hornady’s fix is to fill that cavity at the factory with a soft polymer insert. There is no room left for cloth to occupy, and on impact the insert is driven rearward into the lead, levering the nose open.

115 grain keeps velocity up out of a 3 inch barrel, which is where a lot of carry guns live.
