The Magpul PMAG Rnd AR Gen M3 magazine is a 10 round long polymer magazine for AR15 and M4 compatible weapons chambered in 5.56×45 NATO and .223 Remington. Built on the next generation PMAG platform, this Magpul PMAG Rnd AR magazine carries an expanded feature set along with new material technology and manufacturing processes for enhanced strength, durability, and reliability that exceed rigorous military performance specifications. It is the long body 10 round configuration, part number 7615. Outpost Firearms stocks it for restricted capacity states and competition use.
Why the Magpul PMAG Rnd AR Gen M3 Is the Standard
Magazines cause more stoppages than any other component in a semi automatic rifle. That is not a criticism of any particular design, it is simply where the mechanical complexity of feeding lives. Which is why serious shooters buy quality magazines and treat them as consumables rather than heirlooms.
The GEN M3 is the third generation of a design that reset expectations for what a polymer magazine could do. It is issued, competed with, and trusted worldwide, and its features are the result of a long process of iteration rather than a clean sheet guess.
Features
- 10 round capacity in a long body, ideal where capacity is restricted or a shorter stack is impractical
- Long-life USGI-spec stainless steel spring for commonality with standard parts
- Four-way anti-tilt follower to prevent the follower binding under load
- Constant-curve internal geometry for reliable feeding
- Simple tool-less disassembly for easy cleaning
- Redesigned bolt catch notch and expanded compatibility beyond Colt-spec rifles
Compatibility and Construction
While the GEN M3 is optimized for Colt-spec AR15 and M4 platforms, modified internal and external geometry also permits operation with a range of additional weapons. That list includes the HK 416, MR556A1, and M27 IAR, the British SA-80, and the FN SCAR MK 16 and 16S among others. Buying magazines that work across several rifles simplifies life considerably.
The four-way anti-tilt follower is the feature that matters most in practice. Follower tilt is the classic cause of a magazine induced malfunction, where the follower cants under spring pressure and stops presenting rounds squarely. A four-way follower is supported on all sides and cannot cant.
Constant-curve internal geometry does the same job further down the stack, guiding rounds along a consistent path instead of through a compromise shape. Paired with the long-life USGI-spec stainless steel spring, the result is a magazine that feeds the same on round one and round ten.
The Long Body 10 Round Format
A 10 round magazine in a long body sits at full 30 round length while holding a legally restricted count. That sounds like a disadvantage until you shoot from a bench or a bipod, where a short magazine gives you nothing to grip and a full length body gives you a solid support hand reference. Competitors in some divisions prefer it for exactly that reason, and hunters in states with capacity limits get a magazine that handles like the one they train with. A Magpul PMAG Rnd AR body also indexes properly against a barricade, which a stubby ten rounder never will. The redesigned bolt catch notch helps the rifle lock back reliably on the last round regardless of capacity.
Care is simple thanks to tool-less disassembly. Strip the magazine occasionally, wipe out sand and carbon, inspect the spring and follower, and reassemble. Do not store magazines loaded to capacity for years on end, rotate your stock, and retire any magazine with cracked feed lips rather than trying to save it. Our parts and upgrades category stocks more magazines and rifle components, and Magpul publishes full specifications.
