Installation, use, and care

Start by degreasing the MDT Scope Rings, the rail, and the scope tube. Oil between clamping surfaces allows slipping under recoil, and slipping is the exact failure mode good rings are meant to prevent. A clean, dry interface is worth more than extra torque on the screws.

Level the reticle to the rifle rather than to the world. Use a level on the rail and a second level on the elevation turret cap, tighten the ring caps in a cross pattern, and take the screws to final torque in stages rather than all at once.

Set eye relief in your actual shooting position before final torque. A scope positioned for a bench often gives you a scope shadow in prone or from a barricade, and moving it afterward means starting the process over.

Once everything is installed, verify the screws after the first fifty rounds and then again at the start of each season. Wipe the rings down when you clean the rifle and check for any witness mark movement, which is the earliest sign of a ring letting go. A paint pen mark across the ring cap and the scope tube makes that check take about two seconds.
