Why Washington works this way

No state ammunition permit and no state background check, so ammunition reaches your door normally. What Washington does restrict is magazines. Selling or shipping anything over ten rounds has been barred since July 2022 and the state Supreme Court upheld that in 2025.

Magazines are a separate question

Washington limits magazines to 10 rounds. This catches people out, because it has nothing to do with the ammunition rules above. Even where ammunition reaches you without any trouble, we cannot send a magazine over the limit.
