Who it’s for
People carrying a short barrelled .38, which usually means a 2 inch J frame or similar. Those guns lose a lot of velocity to the short barrel, and a heavy 158 grain bullet out of one often will not reach the speed a hollow point needs. Hornady went the other way with this load: a light 110 grain bullet at +P pressure, which gets the velocity back.
The result is a bullet that actually opens out of a snubby, which is the whole point.

Check your revolver takes +P
Most modern .38s are rated for +P, but older guns and some very light alloy frames are not. If your revolver is old, or you cannot find a +P rating, ask a gunsmith before shooting this. Standard pressure .38 Special is the safe answer in an unrated gun.
