Can You Ship Ammo to Colorado?

What you need at your end

  • 21 or over for rifle and shotgun ammunition, shown with a government photo ID
  • Someone 21 or over must take the delivery and sign for it
  • Rimfire is exempt, so .22 LR is still an 18 and over purchase

Why Colorado works this way

Colorado's HB25-1133 came into force on 1 July 2026. It raises the age for rifle and shotgun ammunition and requires the carrier to verify age and take a written acknowledgement at the door.

Several groups aged 18 to 20 are still allowed to buy: anyone born on or before 28 January 2007 until January 2028, serving military, National Guard and veterans with valid ID, holders of hunter education certification or a hunting licence, range purchases for use on site, and the protected party under an active protection order.

Magazines are a separate question

Colorado limits magazines to 15 rounds. This catches people out, because it has nothing to do with the ammunition rules above. Even where ammunition reaches you without any trouble, we cannot send a magazine over the limit.
