The Sig Sauer M400 SDI-X wears a barrel short enough to work inside a house and around vehicles while still driving 5.56 fast enough to matter at typical defensive distances. Zero it at 50 yards for the flattest practical trajectory across close and mid range, then confirm your holds at 100 and 200 yards.

Short barrels run hotter and dirtier than 16 inch guns because the gas port sits closer to the chamber. Clean the bolt carrier group and extractor more often than you would on a rifle-length gun, and keep the carrier properly lubricated. Inspect the gas rings and the extractor spring at regular intervals so small wear items never become a stoppage at the worst moment.
